I want to purchase an ebook reader. However, I have a collection of ebooks in Microsoft reader, PDF, adobe digital editions, mobipocket reader, and html formats. Is there an ebook reader that will read all of these formats or if I buy one will I then have to buy ebooks in that specific format, such as kindle only?

Yes, there are a number of ebook readers that support those formats. BeBook and EZ Readers both support over 20 formats. All ebook readers, even Kindle, support PDF, and it also supports HTML and MOBI.

Most ebook readers support ADE.

I use my windows mobile phone as an ebook reader. Its a cheap HTC model but any windows mobile phone would work similarly

It can do MS word, TXT, JPG, PDF (but the screen size is small), mobipocket, MS excel, LIT (Microsoft reader), CHM, HTML and a few other formats

thats a nice thing about windows mobile, there’s a huge amount of software out there

A good news is that Amazon has improved their Kindle 2, and it now supports PDF files natively. Read here for details:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200324680&tag=searchresult-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And you can read the section "Files Kindle Recognizes" in the official page here for details:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200375630&tag=searchresult-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

So the Amazon Kindle can support all the formats you specify. For Microsoft Reader, they use LIT format and you can actually convert them to PDF format using this software:

Therefore, I’ll recomment the Amazon Kindle. It is the best ebook reader in the market right now, and is also the bestseller among all ebook readers.
