i wanted to sell the book, but i do have back-end products in it.
There are no benefits. You may be able to sell stories on the back of the free e-books but it is negligable.

Cory Doctorow talks about the benefits of free ebooks at http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/aug/18/free-ebooks-cory-doctorow
"I’ve explained at length elsewhere exactly why I do this, so I won’t go into detail here, except to summarise by saying I don’t think we can stop others from copying – it’s a lost cause. Copying is actually wonderful, and I have copied my head off since I first snuck into the photocopy room at my dad’s office in 1980. My problem isn’t piracy, it’s obscurity, and free ebooks generate more sales than they displace."

Nothing sells books like a personal recommendation–when I worked in a bookstore, the sweetest words we could hear were "My friend suggested I pick up…." The friend had made the sale for us, we just had to consummate it. In an age of online friendship, e-books trump dead trees for word of mouth.
