Where can you get free books online WITHOUT downloading?

Is there a site that doesn’t give you any viruses or crash your computer that you can get free books online and if possible without downloading? If there is no other choice but to download how will it affect my computer? And if I go to the library, are all the popular books gone?

Google Books is the most famous one. Although it restricts you from browsing all of a book’s pages.

But if you have had any purchase on Amazon.com. Then you can go to your desired book’s page, then under the book picture, you may see "Search inside this book" link. This feature is available for many books on this site. Now, log in to your account and click that link. It shows you the book in the real printed book format.but this sometimes restricts you too.

Otherwise if you decide to download your favorite books from ebook sites. Then you can try these two ones:

I just got a Sony e-reader and there are so many web sites that offer books. I certainly do not want to buy a book if it is not a legitimate site. I do not mind paying for books, but I am wondering if there are any free sites out there where I can choose what books I want to download. I have found some sites, but they have only a specific books you can get for free. If not free, cheap books!

Gutenberg is free and legal.

If the author posts the book on his website, it is free and legal.

Ocasionallly a publisher makes it legal.

File sharing sites often have stolen copies so I would not recommend them.

They have an ereader program you can use to read the books on your PC, Mac, or iPhone/iPod Touch as well. If you’re using one of those, then there’s no problem.

For other ereaders… not sure, and it depends on the format of the ebook. It looks like they use .pdb and ePub. If the book comes in .pdb, it looks like you can only read it on their supported devices since it’s a proprietary format.

If it is available in ePub, you should be able to read it on any reader that supports the ePub format, assuming any DRM they may be using doesn’t cause problems. (Sony readers support ePub, Kindle does not.)

You might want to shoot Barnes and Noble a quick email to make sure, too, since I don’t have another ereader and have never tried.

How big should the text of an e-book be on my laptop’s monitor?

Okay. I’m reading an e-book on my laptop, and I’ve been wondering how big the text should look so that reading off the LCD wouldn’t cause eye damage. I also want to know how far the monitor should be from my eyes.

The LCD’s 16.4 inches, and I’m using Adobe acrobat, if that helps.

Press control key, and scroll mouse to the size that you can sit back and still read the text.. ~

I didn’t like it much either, but I don’t think you will find any. This is a collection of meditative essays on nature and writing and hard to synopsize. You might want to look up each essay and see what you come up with (list available at powells.com).

I have a 2 almost 3 year old we love story time but books at walmart and everywhere else are like 5 bucks for the good ones in her age group and she scribbles in them sometimes so i know there are free books somewhere online i just cannot find them.The library is not an option books may be injured during their stay.

Hi Is there any dictionary(not online) that works like mobipocket reader so that we can find the meaning of a word directly as we read articles on a web page .. please help me.

I switched to Firefox from I.E. and I must’ve clicked on an add-on; because I discovered that when I double-clicked on any word, the definition popped up. Then there was one that not only words, but whole paragraphs in foreign languages can be instantly translated…amazing…but I’m not good enough at computer use to tell you exactly what the things are, or how they ended up on my PC! Again, this seemed to be only using Firefox.
