Same ebooks… just cheaper!

I represent a small author who would like to make his books available as digital copies. I have gotten some published on the Kindle, but want to take advantage of other venues as well. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

You can publish for the Kindle directly through Amazon.com.

You can publish ebooks in several formats at Smashwords.

Both take a percentage when you make a sale, but do not charge you to offer your ebooks for sale on their sites.

I want to read on my Sony Reader
Never mind I cant

No, you cannot. E-books on ebook readers are all protected by DRM, and they can only be read with their specific device.

BTW, I’ve given a detailed review and a comparison of a few ebook readers here, guess you’ll be interested:

Is there an Android eReader Widget/Application I can download to my MotoDroid? I love my kindle but want something more "Mobile"

There are several.

I have the Aldiko app that I use a lot with free books available, and you have the option to purchase books also…

There are some other ebook readers. Just do a search in the market or on http://androlib.com

I wanted to purchase a nook, but when I learned that the eReader can be used on the ipod touch, it gave me another reason to buy it. I read on iTunes from other people who downloaded the eReader and they were having problems, but they were only complaints about the iPhone. Did anyone download the eReader to the iPod touch and did it work?

I really don’t think you should purchase Barnes and Nobles’ Nook. There’s been reports on some technical failure, whether used with the iphone or the actual device. I’d wait until they resolved those issues.

I saw a demo in the store, and my first impression was that it was pretty heavy…another lady there said the same thing. If you’ve received yours already, what is your impression of it?

I do not own the Nook, but I heard that the Nook is about the weight of paperbacks.

I own the Kindle 2. Not sure if it helps, but if you ask me to choose again now, I’ll still go for the Kindle instead of the Nook, because I think the web browsing function is rather important (the Nook does not have a web browser). The free internet (and now it is free international internet) plus the web browser allow me to look for information whenever I’m in need. It is really a cool feature that cannot be missed. And right now it is free for both the U.S. and many other countries, it is just incredible when you bring it to trip.

I like to use the text-to-speech function on the Kindle too, meaning that I can "read" with my hands and eyes free…

This is a review from a top reviewer and a book lover, see how she says:

I just need some reviews…and the tech specs?
Does it have a back light? How long does the battery last? How much do the books cost (range) ? Is it better then the Kindle ? Any other important things throw in there, PLEASE!

All ebook readers doesn’t have backlight, but you can get a small extra light that you can clip on the reader. It works like reading books, just turn on the light if you want to read in the dark. The battery lasts for around a week, and books generally cost $10 - $15 (so books on the Nook is more expensive than books on the Kindle).

Between the Nook and the Kindle, I’ve mentioned pretty much between the two here:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091215133036AAQAH0Q

So my vote goes to the Kindle.

The refurbished version is cheaper, but it only has free wireless within U.S., while the new Kindle has free international wireless. And you know, Amazon gave a price drop for the Kindle 2 just before Xmas. It is now at a really good price.

Hope this helps.

I have a Sony PRS-300, and it cannot be read in the dark. Do any of the new EReaders have an internal light? My son’s gameboy from 5 years ago can be played in the dark, so I’d think that some Ereader has a built in light. Thanks

No backlight and you’ll need to get an extra light if you want to read in the dark. All ebook readers don’t have backlight for ease of reading. Just imagine if we read books with screen of gameboy for long hours, it will definitely hurt our eyes.

So like on the Amazon Kindle, you should get a light similar to this one:

Hope it helps :)

Ive recently heard about the ereader or ebook. I know they have been out for a while, but I just started looking into it.
I was wondering what exactly they are. I love to read but my books are starting to take up ALOT of space (I do like to read some books several times).

If someone can explain to me how they work, how much it is to put books onto the reader, etc. I would greatly appreciate it.

The best ereader right nowis the Amazon Kindle. I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. Basically, Amazon produces this device, and it makes a lot of books become available in electronic version. There are over 350,000 Kindle books that we can buy and read on the Kindle right now, and the number of books available is keep on increasing (I remember there are only 270,000 Kindle books when I bought my Kindle a few months ago).

I like my Kindle because I can buy books at a cheaper rate compared to actual books, and I can replace all heavy books with this handy device. I can bring it wherever I want to, so I can utilize my time whenever I’ve some free time (like I’m waiting for friends, shuttle bus, or whatever).

I like to read and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink work very well, it is really like reading books… Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired… And now I prefer to keep and organize all my books on my Kindle rather than organizing all the physical books, it is really much more convenient.

I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get my Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Finally, in case you don’t know, Amazon has put a price slash on the Kindle 2 just before Christmas, and it is now selling $100 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle, and it adds in international wireless access and native PDF support… So take the chance if you want it.

Hope it helps :)

My friend recently got a Sony eReader, and since today’s her birthday, I wanted to surprise her with a gift card for it. Is there a way I can get the card onto her account, instead of just handing her the card? (Sorry if this is confusing…)

I don’t think so. The only way you can get books is through the credit card. You could just give her money and say like, "Here, buy a book, it’s on me!" :) Hope I helped!

What exactly does global wireless mean? I really want to get an ereader. I’m torn between sony’s readers and amazon’s kindles, but am leaning towards sony’s product. help please.

Global wireless means the Amazon Kindle comes with free internet access in countries other than the U.S. (now over a hundred countries). The Sony Reader doesn’t even have a web browser…

And I say the Kindle is much better. Read this article and you’ll know, it is written by a person who has tried several ebook readers, and it is also the best review I’ve ever read about ebook readers:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR3QM7LGL62MZ4X%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=querystr-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Hope this helps you decide.
